AC Milan vs Genoa: Trophy gap defines this matchup
AC Milan vs Genoa stats: the giant trophy gap
The first thing that jumps out from the AC Milan vs Genoa stats is the title count. AC Milan sit on 19 domestic league titles. Genoa have 9.
The raw numbers look closer than the real picture, but the key detail is simple. Milan are still winning in the modern era. Genoa are not adding to that total right now.
This gap shapes the whole Head to Head record story. One club lives with constant pressure to win. The other fights to stay relevant.
European stage: Milan in a different world
The biggest anomaly in these AC Milan vs Genoa stats is in Europe. Milan have 7 top European titles. Genoa have 0.
That is not a small edge. It is a different level of football. Milan are used to Champions League nights and long runs deep into the tournament.
So any historical matchups between these sides come with that weight. Genoa face a club that measures itself by European Cups, not just league places.
Domestic cups: Milan's extra silver layer
The story does not change in the Coppa Italia. AC Milan have lifted the domestic cup 5 times. Genoa have managed it just 1 time.
This adds another layer to the Head to Head record context. Even in knockout football, Milan know how to finish the job more often.
For Genoa, upsetting Milan in the cup is always framed as a big shock. The data fully backs that feeling from fans.
Squad size 2024-25: almost identical numbers
One small surprise in the AC Milan vs Genoa stats is squad size. Milan list a group of 28 players for 2024-25. Genoa come in at 27.
So the gap is not about sheer numbers. Both clubs carry a similar headcount into the season.
- AC Milan squad size: 28
- Genoa squad size: 27
The real difference comes from what those squads have delivered in trophies, not how many names are on the sheet.
Head to Head record story and rivalry feel
Even without full match-by-match data, the trophy haul shapes the Head to Head record narrative. Milan, with 19 league titles and 7 European crowns, enter most historical matchups as heavy favorites.
Genoa's 9 league titles and single domestic cup show tradition, but not the same modern punch. That is what gives this fixture its edge. Fans know one club is a serial winner, and the other is always hunting the upset.
